Lucia Del Rio Lopez, Manager of Procurement and Contracts at the Regional Metropolitan Transit Authority of Omaha, or Metro.

She works closely with Metro’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Liaison Officer, Alicia Johnson, Ph.D., Civil Rights and Inclusion Director, to provide opportunities for DBEs in an effort to create a level playing field and provide fair opportunities for all businesses competing for contracts.

In the upcoming three Federal Fiscal Years (2024-2026), Metro seeks to spend at least 4.6% of its anticipated federal funds (~$30.5 million) with DBEs certified through the Nebraska Unified Certification Program across various industries.

Hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts and funding are available once businesses receive specific certifications. Businesses are missing out because they lack certifications from the city, county, state, and federal governments and corporate supplier diversity programs.
